"I love and embrace who I am."

Just because you don’t see things happening the way you’d hope they’d happen, doesn’t mean they’re not going in the direction you want. God works in mysterious ways. Where you are right now is where you are meant to be. The route you’re taking to get to where you WANT to be just might be a different route. Trust that there are no coincidences and no mistakes. Everything is as it should be and everything will unfold as it’s meant to be. Sometimes we just need a reminder of that! #lifecoach #affirmations #spiritjunkie #wisdom (at www.winkyboo.com)

10.) The Yellower The Corn, The Better
Though white corn is tasty, you’re gaining about 7% of your daily vitamin A requirement from yellow corn. Power up this yummy side dish with a little chili pepper. It’s an indigestion remedy that’s been used for generations in Mexico. This combination enhances your ability to digest corn’s protein, says Luis Aguilar Puente, chef at Tacombi NYC.
9.) Replace Butter With Avocados When Baking
Swapping 1 cup of mashed avocado for 1 cup of butter adds nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients to cookie, cake and muffin recipes. Over 75% of the fat contained in an avocado is of the healthy kind.
8.) Cook Your Carrots Whole
Sliced carrots allow a larger surface area which sends more of their nutrients into the cooking water. Carrots retain 25% more falcarinol, which is a cancer-fighting compound, if they’re left whole while boiled. Cooked carrots are more nutritious than raw ones because heating them helps your body absorb more beta-carotene.
7.) Add Pink Grapefruit Into Smoothies
Grapefruit itself is one of the best fat-burning fruits around. Mixing it into a blender breaks down its cell walls which makes cancer-fighting lycopene more available to your body for absorption. For an added boost, add some spinach with the grapefruit (or any citrus fruit) and it’ll help you absorb the iron in the dark, leafy greens.
6.) Refrigerate Cooked Potatoes
If you consume potatoes after cooling, it’ll lower the body’s glycemic respond by 30 to 37%. That’ll help keep blood sugar levels stable as well as curbing hunger. Cook red or russet potatoes and then chill for 24 hours prior to eating. Studies have shown that boiled and then chilled red potatoes dropped from high on the glucose scale to just above low. Eating them cold decreased its glycemic index value.
5.) Tear Lettuce In Advance
The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that if you cut romaine and iceberg lettuce a few hours before serving, it’ll double its antioxidant content.
4.) Dice Garlic And Let It Rest
Garlic has powerful medicinal properties – cancer-fighting compounds, antioxidants and vitamin C. When you allow it to sit after dicing it for about 10 minutes, it maximizes these qualities. Heating garlic right away diminishes the anticancer properties it contains.
3.) Purchase Canned Tomatoes Rather Than Fresh
This might shock you but the most nutritious tomatoes are actually processed tomatoes, like tomato puree. It’s insanely rich in lycopene which is correlated with lowering your risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and macular degeneration.
2.) Dark Chocolate Is The Best
Dark chocolate is made up of more than 70% cacao and can lower bad cholesterol, decrease blood pressure and help in weight loss according to several studies. One study showed that volunteers who ate 3.5 ounces of it every single day for a week raised their “good” (HDL) cholesterol by 9%.
1.) Rub Then Eat Kumquats
Sure it sounds weird but studies show that limonene, essential oil present in these tiny citrus fruits have anticancer properties. If you eat about 5 of them you’ll get a hefty dose of vitamin C, carotene’s and lutein. The maximum benefits happen when you rub them first to release their essential oils, then eat them whole (peel and all!).
